After learning about warm & cool colors, complementary colors, positive & negative space and patterns came this project.
The children chose if they wanted their background to have circles or squares. Then they chose two to three stencils to trace over their backgrounds creating their own compositions. After that, they chose whether they wanted their positive space to be warm or cool and vice versa for their negative space. Then they used their knowledge of patterns to repeat the colors and their knowledge of complementary colors to match up the color's complement when the image overlaps.
The children were five and six years old in public school. They used pencil and crayons.
