I taught the children about tessellations and showed them examples in art and in clothing. Then they created their stencils and traced them filling up the page. Then I asked them if they could see anything they could turn the repeating shape into. This proved challenging for five and six year olds, we have some frogs in one, and elephants in another, and then many monster friends with smiley faces. I know with more time, I can get more out of this project with them!
