When the kids start learning about the life cycle of a butterfly its a fun time for this project. I use this opportunity to teach them about symmetry and pointillism. After learning and practicing pointillism and determining whether objects are symmetrical or asymmetrical they get to design their symmetrical wings using q-tips making dots with their paint. The kids were five and six years old in kindergarten public school.
