The children learned about value and then sorted the colors white, yellow, orange, and red from lightest to darkest. We practiced value scales with the rays of the sun, painting our colors going from lightest to darkest.
Then they learned about how artists use value to make their art look three-dimensional instead of flat. I showed them how to turn a circle into a sphere. Each child cut out a circle which was divided into A, B, C, D lightest to darkest sections for the children to paint in and create their 3D sphere.
Finally, the children glued their value scale rays to their beautiful sun sphere.
